Google is looking ways to automate the data centers. With our current data centers it means that we’re looking at viable ways to work with data center technicians to be as assistive as possible.
In the future they’re thinking about ways to create mostly (or fully) automated data centers.
Physical automation initiative can potentially save $3.1B dollars annually for Google through labor, JIT maintenance, and redundancy.
Through the idea of Automation End To End Service (AETES for short), the team was thinking of how to continually implement parts of services at a time to eventually build a fully automated service. They’ve already built scanning and tracking (and destroying) parts coming in and out of data centers and begun installation at all data centers.
Their plan was to start executing their bigger ideas that they’ve been developing and testing. One of the major initiatives was to migrate and begin centralizing many of the projects into one service called Talos. This is the initative that I lead and took charge of.
