Make it count
Assess 2 Perform is figuring out the next tool for college, professional, and olympic
athletes to maximizing every exercise routine. By merging internet of things devices (IoT) with iPads to track motion and create science of peak performance.  Only problem was that they lacked direction for making it user/consumer friendly.
Team
I came on the project as a product design consultant. I worked with an iOS engineer and product owner.

A2P came to me when realized that they had a product idea, but not the product solution. They need help to get across how usable their product was going to be in the software. They needed to translate all that data they received from A2P sensor into a recording tool that an athlete could use on their own easily.

Usability testing
The current beta app didn't acknowledge the users challenges as they were trying to get a work out. The flow to get to a work out was too demanding and the measurements were not value oriented when the user was working out. Simply there were too many things going on and too many screens on the flow. They wanted to get in and get their reps done.
Discovery
Give users a frictionless path to workout routine and keep them there until they're finished.
Wireframe
We looked at how to improve the experience by removing any friction point from the user to getting their work out done. Essentially from the moment they receive the device, they would set the exercise routine and then go. From then on, they'd never leave that main view until the end of their exercise. Only thing they'd focus on is switching routine or the load set.

Testimonial
"One key to winning over todays more tech savvy athlete is to consistently bridge the gap between science and application. The Bar Sensei allows me to easily and quickly test my team and track progress. But more importantly, it can continually be implemented in training to give the athlete more advanced feedback they now look for."

What I learned
Making a workout device for professionals is a challenge as each professional needs are different. As we documented workout routines and figured out how they would access their workout routines, I had to optimize their experience for the user. Additionally, we had to consider the IoT device connection and hardware constraints. Working on IoT devices with a small startup required much more attention to final polished flows as they had less time available on iterative designs. If I could do things again, I would have asked for additional time for validation testing to optimize each design acceptance.
